Welcome to LifeRing Secular Recovery!
LifeRing is a self-help support group for all people who want to get and stay clean and sober. We meet every Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, which is located at 4 Archdale Street in Charleston.
We are guided by the “Three-S” philosophy:
- Sobriety. To us, “sobriety” means total abstinence from alcohol and other non-medically indicated drugs. We believe that successful recovery depends upon the Sobriety Priority; nothing should interfere with abstinence from mind-altering substances. We do not drink or use, no matter what.
- Secularity. We welcome people of all faiths and of none. Issues of faith and spirituality are generally not part of our meeting discussions. We are not theologians, and we seek to avoid religious debate of all kinds.
- Self-Help. In LifeRing, we believe that the power to recover lies within each of us, and our group functions to assist and reinforce each member’s efforts to recover. LifeRing neither prescribes a one-size-fits-all recovery plan nor proscribes participation in any other abstinence-based program. We aim to provide a supportive and positive environment in which each member can develop his or her own optimum recovery program.
If you’re having trouble getting clean and sober, or staying that way, and you’re looking for support in your recovery, please join us.
